5 years ago : First trip
At the end of 5 year ago, my wife got the information that “the best snow crabs are available here” and we went to “Shorenkan Yoshinoya Ryokan” for the first time to eat “Taisa Crab”. There were four of us, myself, my wife, my daughter and my son. It was a one-day trip. But we enjoyed a full course of “Taisa Crab”.
Among the fresh snow crabs landed at the port by only five fishing boats, only the best are given a green tag and named “Taisa Crab”.
We were surprised at how delicious this “Taisa Crab” was. We really enjoyed the full course of winter snow crab, which was served one after another in various cooking methods: sashimi, steamed, grilled, and hot pot.
“We would like to come back someday and stay at this Shorenkan Yoshinoya Ryokan in the future,” was the family’s conversation at the time.
2 years ago : Second trip
Two years ago, my children invited my wife and I back to this “Shorenkan Yoshinoya Ryokan”. It was a surprise event to celebrate our 60th birthday, and it turned out to be the best “Kanreki” celebration ever, fulfilling our family’s wish from five years ago.
By the time of this second trip, our daughter was already married, our grandchildren were born, and our family had grown from four to six members.
Last year December : Third trip
In mid-December last years, we made reservations of “Syorenkan Yoshinoya Ryokan” for a weekend to enjoy “Taiza Crab” dinner. The trip memebers of this time were eight, including two grandchildren and a newly married son and his wife.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon. We first relaxed in the room and then went to the hot spring.
Hot spring : Outdoor bath “Bidoro-no-Yu”
Two hot springs are switched between men and women by time. From daytime to nighttime, the “Bidoro-no-Yu” is for men. The open-air bath on the fourth floor of this ryokan has two rectangular tubs. The Sea of Japan stretches out below. With the cold sea breeze on your face, the hot hot spring water warms you to the core. It is a moment of bliss.

Full Course of “Taiza Crab”
We enjoyed the “Taiza Crab” dishes. A variety of crab dishes are on the menu.

↑ Crab sashimi: Clear and transparent crab sashimi. Highest freshness.

↑ Boiled crab: A classic crab. The plump crab meat is slightly sweet and the crabmeat has a deep flavor.

↑ Rice with crab miso paste: Rich and tender

↑ Kora-mushi: Steamed egg custard using crab shells for a pleasing appearance.

↑Crab miso paste soup: The moment crabmeat is added to the pot, the crabmeat blooms. The crabmeat and soup stock are an exquisite collaboration. The soup is served for each person by a cup.
Kani-suki: end the feast with a bowl of rice
…Just…just…exquisite.
Hot spring : Large Communal Bath “Shoren-no-Yu”
The next morning, before breakfast, We took a bath in another hot spring of : Shoren-no-Yu which is an indoor bath. Surrounded by greenery and brightly morning light We enjoyed bath.

Coffee in the lobby
On this morning, the first snow of the year was piling up in Taiza. A delightful gift from nature.
Before checking out, my wife and I had coffee in the lobby. Through the large glass window in front of us, we could see last night’s snow. And beyond that, we could see the Sea of Japan.

Time passes slowly.
The seats at the far end are said to be the ones where the famous Japanese actor “Koichi Sato” used to stay for long periods of time from time to time.

Under the “Yoshinoya” sign in front of the entrance, we took a commemorative photo of our family, which has grown to eight members. This trip was added to our family memories with this picture. We hope to return here again in the near future with new family member.
